District Acceptable Use Policy

Keyboarding

The keyboarding programs used at the elementary school are called All the Right Type and Type For Fun. Keyboarding begins in 3rd-grade.  All the Right Type is an interactive program designed to teach keyboarding skills. Emphasis is placed on proper finger positioning, proper posture and accuracy.  Type For Fun is a game format typing program.  Students use 4 interactive space games to practice letters and words.

Word Processing & Desktop Publishing

The word processing program used at the elementary school is called Microsoft Word.  Students also use Microsoft Publisher and PowerPoint for projects.

Scholastic Software Ordering Lego Robotics

Scholastic Software purchases are available several times a year at affordable prices (no tax or shipping charges). Students may pick up order sheets in the Computer Lab. When returned, order forms need to include child's name and teacher's name.  Payment is by CHECK ONLY, made out to Scholastic Software Club.  Delivery is in about 2 weeks.

Fifth grade students have an opportunity to work on a robotics unit using the Lego Robotics Mindstorms kit.  Students build a robotic system, program it, and do a presentation on the finished robotic. The unit is aligned with the New York Learning Standards in MST (Math, Science, Technology).
The main component of the robotic is the RCX brick that stores the programs.  The robotic is built around the brick using legos.  Robo Lab software is then used  to program the "behavior" and the program is sent to the brick using an infrared transmitter.  This is the same technology that runs your VCR.

Teamwork and problem solving skills are also a large part of this project.
