What Is In-School Counseling?

In-school counseling is an educational service which is designed to help student in dealing with social, emotional or learning difficulties that may be interfering with the educational process.

Counseling services help improve communication between the student and/or family and school staff to help a child be more productive and successful in school. In-school counseling may be done in individual or group sessions.

In-school counseling should not be confused with more intensive therapy, or the kind of counseling which might be received in a clinical setting. In-school counseling is more oriented toward goal-setting and problem solving to help with school, whereas a clinical or agency setting is amore appropriate atmosphere in which to deal with longer-term, emotional or behavioral issues.
