Business Department Highlighted!

Business Teacher Suzanne Markowski talked about the preparation for real world business practices through innovative course work.

The Dansville Area Chamber of Commerce Dinner at Brae Burn celebrated the success of the Dansville Central School by recognizing it as Organization of the Year. The high school Jazz Band opened the show performing an outstanding selection of classical favorites. Joining the student musicians were Director Scott Ciesla and High School Principal Joseph Hochreiter.

President Richard Deasis reviewed the Chamber’s accomplishments for the year followed by Nominating Committee Chairman Tom Wamp. A "major component of the community" is the a school district, said Wamp. "We are very honored to recognize Dansville Central School, it is very well deserved." Wamp presented the framed certificate to Superintendent of Schools Adele Bovard.

"I am proud to be here tonight as one of many representatives of the Dansville Central School," said Bovard, who continued by introducing many DCS faculty and staff. "I am honored to be working in my third year in the Superintendent’s role. I am please to report that the financial condition of the school has improved with each year." Bovard reviewed the history of the work that has been completed to remove the district from the denotation of "in fiscal distress." Including a review of business practices, " we have worked hard to improve our educational programs as well," added Bovard. "I am proud to report that this is bring positive recognition to our schools." The Dansville Middle School was named a Charter Middle Member of the New York State Middle School Network, the High and Middle schools were asked to be part of a Model Schools Network of the International Center. In June of last year, DCS presented at a conference of the International Center for Leadership in Education.

Following Bovard’s comments, Math-Science-Technology Teacher Lynn Auble spoke about the unique MST program, followed by Business Teacher Suzanne Markowski. Markowski talked about the preparation for real world business practices through innovative course work.

District Principal for Instructional Services Dale Johnson said "We have come a long way in a short time." Johnson talked about the partnerships with the community providing career exploration opportunities and advanced learning courses. He touched briefly on the new programs that are underway to increase student achievement and continue to move Dansville Central Schools toward the meeting the extensive needs of today’s successful learners.

Closing remarks were made by Board of Education Vice-President Mary Ann Holden. "I graduated from Dansville," said Holden, " I can’t help to see how different things are for our students with vocational opportunities through BOCES and GCC, this is a very different world. I had the opportunity to speak with the Dansville staff on opening day and told them they have the most important job in Dansville… The world is not a static place, we need to prepare kids to live in a changing world," said Holden. "Thank you for celebrating our success."
