About the MS Library

The Dansville Middle School Library is centrally located on the first floor of the building. In the library, there are four computer stations with individual work surfaces.  Patrons may also choose to work at one of six tables that are placed around the library.  Laptop computers provide the flexibility for the patron to find compatible workspace when needed.

The instructional room provides teachers with the option of bringing a class to the library, combining library usage with a separate instructional place.  This makes it easy for the students to work back and forth between the two rooms, using book and computer resources.   While using the instructional room, the teacher is able to maintain classroom structure, use the various library resources and separate from other activity within the library.

Students visit the library to borrow reading material or a magazine, read the newspaper, use the reference section, or to work on classroom projects utilizing one of the twenty-four computers that are available.  Twenty of these computers are contained within a “wireless cart”.  The cart stores the computers when they aren’t in use, thus allowing the batteries to recharge.

The library subscribes to our local newspaper and eight magazines, with many more available through on-line databases.  You may visit that section of the website from the main library page. The library book and video collection is approximately 10,000.  These items are categorized between fiction, non-fiction, reference, story collections, biographies, and professional items.

The overall goal of the Library is to support and enrich the curriculum of the school, and encourage student reading. These varied resources from the library help enable the students to produce quality work, and learn to enjoy reading and research.  Emphasis is placed on maintaining a balance among resources that are available for patron usage.  If the patron is unable to find appropriate resources, Mrs. Riedel, the librarian, is very willing to assist in meeting the patron’s needs.
