Message from the Principal
September 2008

By Amy Schiavi

Welcome back! It has been a busy summer at the Middle School. Mr. Roote and I have enjoyed seeing many community members and students at local events during these past few months. It is always great to visit in a more relaxed environment.

We have some new staff joining our Middle School Team:

Doug Schneider: Doug filled in as a long-term sub for us last year. He spent the rest of the year teaching intervention services at Brighton. He has returned and will be the newest member of the White Team. Doug will be teaching 7th and 8th grade science.

Elizabeth Irwin: Elizabeth is a graduate of Houghton College. She will be teaching instrumental music. She has already spent a few days acclimating herself with the students and staff.

Linda Brokaw: Linda is a graduate of SUNY Geneseo with a background in reading and elementary education. She will be teaching science and math on the Gold Team. Linda spent the last day of school with us this year getting to know the students and staff.

Velma Kahn: Velma is a graduate of SUNY Geneseo with a background in elementary and technology education. She taught for many years in the parochial schools. She will be running the computer lab and helping our students with that facility.

There has been a lot of positive energy at DMS as teachers have been busy getting classrooms ready to welcome students on September 3rd. We would like to extend a welcome to the community to visit us on September 25th for our Open House from 6 to 7:30 pm.

An interdisciplinary learning focus will begin with the 8th graders experiencing what it was like to live during Civil War times. Reenactors will be visiting our school on September 19th to lead “companies” through the drills.

As the year progresses, please take the opportunity to come and visit us and always feel free to contact us at 335-4020.
