Message from the Principal
April/May 2008

By Amy Schiavi

During the months of April and May our students will be participating in many exciting activities. Seventh graders will be traveling to York to see a performance by Young Theatre Works called Freedom Train. Eighth grade students will be traveling to Darien Lake theme park to attend the MS Science Day. And, sixth graders will be preparing for Medieval Festival in June.

Eighth graders will also be preparing for two important exams; the New York State science exam and the foreign language speaking exam in May. More information about dates for these exams will be sent home in the next few weeks.

Throughout the school year the MS students have had the opportunity to attend assemblies, field trips and concerts. Following these events the presenters and other community members have commented on how respectful and attentive the students were during the presentation. We are proud of our students and the effort that they have put forth to make Dansville Middle School a model for others. We thank you for your support and wish to continue to foster this culture.

With the warmer weather approaching I would like to mention our dress code. A student’s dress, grooming and appearance should:
1. Be safe, appropriate and not disrupt or interfere with the educational process.
2. Recognize that extremely brief garments, such as tube tops, net tops, halter-tops, spaghetti straps, plunging necklines (front and or back), and see-through garments, are not appropriate.
3. Ensure that underwear is completely covered with outer clothing.
4. Include footwear at all times. Footwear that is a safety hazard will not be allowed.
5. Not include the wearing of hats or bandanas, or other head garments in the classroom except for a medical or religious purpose.
6. Not include items that are vulgar, obscene, libelous, or belittle others based on race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, or disability.
7. Not promote and or endorse the use of alcohol, tobacco, or illegal drugs and or encourage other illegal or violent activities.

During the spring season we recognize how difficult it can be for student to focus on school work and give their best effort. We thank you for all your efforts and ask that you please continue to encourage your child to put forth his/her best effort. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
