About Our Year of Learning:
MULTIAGE THEMES

for 2008-2009

Students in the 1-2 multiage classes are on a two-year curriculum cycle of themes.  We operate on a two-year rotation so that students in our program are provided with new themes each year.  For example, in the 2007-2008 school year, students in our classes learned about butterflies, apples, spiders, pioneers, etc..  The new themes for the 2008-2009 school year are outlined below.  Within these themes, we typically provide a basis for learning to meet general curriculum guidelines and then all of the students are able to complete a K-W-L Chart.  This chart provides them an opportunity to first complete what they KNOW and WONDER about their topic of choice, and then after they research, they complete a project to show what they have LEARNED about their topic.  Students are also given opportunities to write a report about their project and to complete an artistic response to show their learning as well.  In addition to these broad themes, students have opportunities to choose mini-topics of their choice that they can learn about in our multiage program.   For example, students in the past have researched pets, hobbies, etc. that they have read and written about and then taught to the rest of the class.  We love to have the students engaged in topics of their choice as much as possible.  When they have an interest in their learning, they become so much more engaged and motivated to learn.
