Dansville Central School welcomes Dave DeLoria, new members and swears in new officers; Phil Saunders generosity touches DCS Dansville Central School held the annual reorganization Tuesday, July 11 during which numerous business items were handled. New Board members Mary Ann Holden, Peter Bacon and David Mapes were sworn in as well as Dr. Tony Witte, who will serve the remaining term of board member Timothy McGowan who resigned for work reasons. Mary Ann Holden was elected by the trustees as President of the Board of Education and Dr. Tony Witte was elected vice president. Interim Superintendent David DeLoria joined the Board of Education for his first meeting as the chief officer for the district. During the regular Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, July 11, Interim David DeLoria announced that Dansville Central School would be among the generous recipients to benefit from the visionary and entrepreneur E. Philip Saunders. Saunders recently gifted $13 million to RIT's business education program, which in turn announced Tuesday it would name its business school in his honor. Saunders, a lifelong resident of Livingston County, has designated a portion of his $13 million commitment to benefit students from Dansville and Livonia Central Schools. Graduates from Dansville, where he currently resides, and Livonia where Saunders attended high school, will become eligible for scholarships to pursue business studies at RIT. DCS Interim Superintendent David DeLoria said, "The Dansville Central School District is excited about this opportunity and is looking forward to building a strong relationship with Mr. Saunders and RIT. This is an incredible opportunity for our students and we thank Mr. Saunders and RIT for their generosity." Details about the scholarship opportunity as well as plans to forge a relationship between DCS and the organizations will be discussed in upcoming weeks.
