Hunt Architects presented the Dansville Central School Board of
Education with a recent award for the design of the Middle
School facility during the Phase II capital project. As a result
of earning the award, the Dansville Middle School is
featured in the AS&U Magazine Architectural Portfolio. During
the January 9th Board of Education meeting, Stephen Somogy of
Hunt Architects, designers of the renovated middle school,
presented an award plaque and copies of the magazine to
Superintendent Matthew McGarrity and the Board. The building was
recognized because of the care to detail honoring the building's
history and creating a state-of-the-art learning center.
Carefully matched brick and casework provide for a seamless
transition to the additions. the publication also made mention
of the glass stair tower, auditorium updates and entranceway
designs.
Following the presentation,
the Board of Education hosted a public hearing for the upcoming
public vote on the EXCEL aided capital project and the Clement's
Field bleacher project. The EXCEL proposition will create a
$3,325,000 project to address maintenance, health and safety,
and energy improvements to the district facilities. Because of
the use of EXCEL aid this project is presented to voters at no
cost. A Clement's Field bleacher replacement proposal is the
second proposition and will result in replacing both sets of
bleachers to address accessibility and ongoing safety concerns.
The proposition includes a request for voter authorization to
utilize $85,000 from the capital reserve fund in order to
present the project with no impact to the tax levy. Voting will
take place on Tuesday, January 30th from noon to 8 pm at the
North Dansville Town Hall. All district residents, 18 years and
older, who have resided in the district for at least 30 days
prior to the vote and are US citizens, are eligible to vote. A
district-wide newsletter should arrive in homes the week of
January 15th with detailed information about the two
propositions. If residents have additional questions, they are
encouraged to attend the January 23rd Board of Education meeting
at 7 pm in the Primary School Cafeteria or to contact the
District Office at 335-4000.
