The Dansville Chess Club has over 40 members
that meet after school to practice chess strategies and prepare
for the BOCES sponsored tournaments. The tournaments are
held at the May Center in Mount Morris. The elementary students
compete against students from Albion, Geneseo and Keshequa. The
Middle School students compete against students from Albion,
Geneseo, Keshequa and Wayland-Cohocton.
At the first tournament on November 8th the EBH
club placed first. Individual medals were won by Brandon Mott in
the beginner division, A.J. Fox and Bradlee Laird in the
intermediate division and Nicholas Vogler, Philip Blum and Jade
Andersen in the advanced division. The second tournament was
held on January 10th. The EBH team placed second in this
tournament scoring one less point than Geneseo. Individual

Chess club members are currently preparing for their next
tournament on February 7th and hope to qualify for the
championship tournament on March 14th. The success of the chess
program is attributed to the many parent volunteers, teacher
helpers and high school student volunteers. The club’s advisor
is Shelia Cripps.
