October 2008

It is always interesting in
the fall to watch the freshman as they successfully
integrate into the culture of the high school. In the
beginning they seem nervous and unsure, but by
mid-September they are finding that high school is not
the big scary place their older siblings or friends told
them about. Rather, the high school offers more freedom,
responsibility, and new opportunities. One of the new
opportunities for our kids at the high school is our
Homecoming celebration the first week of October. During
this time the students are encouraged to dress up for
different “theme” days including the traditional red and
black day on Thursday for the Pep Rally. On Thursday Oct
2, students are invited to attend the bonfire at the
fireman’s pavilion in Babcock Park. On Friday Oct 3, is
the annual parade and football game at 7:30 pm against
Livonia. Saturday Oct 4 will feature the alumni golf
tournament at Brae Burn (for information please contact
Pat Moses, AD, at the high school) and the semi-formal
dance at 8:00 p.m. in the high school gym; admission to
the dance is $5.00.
I appreciate the patience
and understanding shown so far with the locker situation
at the high school. We are working to resolve this in a
timely and efficient manner. Any concerns about lockers
should be forwarded to me. I would also encourage
parents to consider attending PTO Meetings on the third
Tuesday of each month. PTO has been instrumental in
coordinating Homecoming and serves as an important
conduit of communication between parents, teachers, and
administration. Please do not hesitate to contact me
with any concerns. Go Mustangs!
