We, as the educators in the Dansville Middle School, believe that school prepares oneself, the individual, for life
as a productive, well-educated member of our society. As a
community of learners, we therefore provide real-life opportunities and nurturing
experience in all disciplines and areas of education so as to allow each individual to
continually develop her/himself as a whole person:
Mentally, analytically, emotionally, physically, creatively, inspirationally, and
socially. Practices to support our philosophy:
-
Middle School curriculum will be an interactive process. Students should be
involved with their teachers, learning materials, and each other in ways that are
engaging, meaningful, and purposeful.
-
The environment will encourage collaboration and communication amongst
students, parents, teachers, staff, and community.
-
Middle School curriculum will reflect relevant knowledge, skills, and
information that students can apply to life experiences as well as reflect
the philosophy of enduring understanding and essential learning.
-
Teachers will actively present materials in a manner which encourages students
to accept challenges, develop insight, explore, discover, and problem solve
to promote critical thinking and develop educational risk-taking.
-
Knowledge and skills will be presented in an interdisciplinary fashion; planned
and presented in a way that demonstrates the connectivity of the disciplines.
-
Our Middle School environment will promote student respect and
appreciation of self and others as part of responsible citizenship;
making good choices and accepting consequences for actions. Our school
will follow a "Zero Tolerance" policy towards bullying, fighting, and any
other disrespectful, harmful behaviors.
-
Our school will strive to achieve the Dansville Middle School
