Special Education

WELCOME to the Special Education Department at Dansville Central School!

The goal of Dansville’s special education programs and services is to support the district’s Vision and Mission by providing children with disabilities with an appropriate education in the least restrictive environment. Each child is carefully assessed before the Committee on Special Education (CSE) makes recommendations for programs and services. All four of the district’s schools house special education programs. Each school has a Building Pupil Assistance Team to monitor the progress of students with disabilities and students who are having educational difficulties. The school district’s Committee on Special Education (CSE) also meets regularly to review the progress of students with disabilities and stands ready to make adjustments in programs and services as our children change and grow. Parents and family members are considered critical partners, along with school district personnel, in the education of their children. Parents provide essential information to teachers and administrators; play an important role in decisions made about their children and can be a key to supporting high expectations for their children during their school years.

The Specialized Services Department provides a host of services, programs, and supports to students, families and staff in both general and special education, including:

  • Guidance for families and staff pertaining to special education processes and programming.
  • Services to students in both general and special education which include: audiology, autism support, medical management and assistive technology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, specialized educational programming, speech/language and hearing services, vision services, and supports to students who are deaf or hearing impaired.
  • Transition planning for students with disabilities who graduate or reach age 21.
  • Authorization of Section 504 Plans in accordance with the American Disabilities Act
