The District will focus on using NYS an district data to improve curriculum and instruction to provide effective classroom instruction, support and feedback to students and their parents to improve academic performance
Goal 1 - Promote Student Achievement - Structure collaboration (teamwork) and PD to support student centered pedagogy.
Curriculum - Using results of the districtwide needs assessment (2022) and update (2023) along with NYS and district data, faculty will examine scope and sequence of units, priority standards, and learning targets. There will be a strong focus on further integrating the Reveal Math curriculum resource first adopted in 2022-23. Our literacy focus in primary school will be on writing and incorporating principles from the science of reading into literacy instruction. Elementary teachers will be working collaboratively on using the data to develop long range plans. MS/HS teachers will be refining curriculum maps with specific emphasis on learning targets and assessment.
Instruction - The district seeks to provide professional learning in instructional practices that are applicable to large numbers of staff and align with NYS Teaching Standards and the Marshall Rubric. Offerings in recent years have been the 7 Habits / Leader in Me, Kagan Cooperative Learning, and coaching in the Units of Study in Reading and Writing and Fundations training. In 2023-24, we will continue to focus on the second year with the Reveal math curriculum as well as professional learning and coaching from our UR National Science Foundation fellows concentrating on math practices, growth mindset and engaging math instruction. We will also continue coaching and collaboration in the Units of Reading and Writing as well as Fundations, and principles of the science of reading.
