Mrs. Brandi Bishop

I am a lifelong resident of the Dansville community. I have always wanted to be around children and help them learn to love learning. This passion started when I was young and was around children with developmental disabilities that my mother helped care for. I have always wanted to help children. While in college, the passion to be a teacher was extremely strong and I took every opportunity to be in the classroom. While in college, I had the opportunity to travel and teach in an inner city school in Chicago. This is where I learned how many of the students, no matter what their life was like, needed to be shown that they were important and loved. This experienced changed my whole outlook on children and being a teacher. After completely my student teaching internships, I became a self contained special education teacher. This was working with middle school children. I learned a lot during this position, especially that being a teenager is an extremely hard time of life. I then was given the opportunity to teach in the Naples School District as an elementary teacher. I continued teaching in Naples for 15 years. While there I worked as a classroom teacher for grades 4, 1 and Kindergarten. I soon fell in love with teaching children how to love, understand and read books. This became my favorite part of teaching and led me to taking many workshops and learning a variety of programs that I could include in my day to help all my students become successful readers. As I learned more, I knew being a reading teacher was something that I really wanted to be. I joined the Primary School in February, 2017 as a Reading Teacher. This has been my dream position and it being in my home district was an additional benefit. I learned so much during the remainder of that school year and loved the opportunity that I was given to help so many students.

Currently, I am a special education teacher. I am working as a co-teacher in two kindergarten classrooms. This has been a wonderful opportunity to help more of the students in the Primary School. I am still able to teach reading in both a whole classroom setting as well as small groups.

While here at Dansville, I was able to teach during the summer reading program. I am also a member of the Primary School Lighthouse Team, working on incorporating the 7 Habits and making leaders out of our students. I also have been active in helping in making a profile that helps the teachers be able to look at the skills that are necessary for all students to be successful readers and writers.

Personally, I live in town with my two daughters. Samantha is a current 8th grader. She is active in volleyball, band, chorus and a member of the National Junior Honor Society. My youngest daughter, Lauren, is in 6th grade. She is also an active member of band and chorus. She is involved in dance and has been dancing since she was 3 years old. Both girls are very excited to have me so close to home and them! When I am not teaching, I enjoy taking landscape pictures and hiking trails to find the "quiet" places in our environment. I have taken a few photography classes and have enjoyed being able to share these photos with so many family members and friends as special gifts. I have also taken up the love for painting. I enjoy sharing my work with the students by bringing in my paintings and displaying them around the room for the students to see that even teachers are learning new things.

I have gained so many friends as co-workers as well as parents since my start here in Dansville. This community has always been my favorite but being in the school community has shown me more as to what I love about Dansville.
